About This Place

Nestled along the picturesque A544 in Llanfair Talhaiarn, Glan Yr Afon Cafe is a charming haven for those seeking authentic Welsh flavors and comforting, homemade dishes. This delightful cafe embraces a cozy, relaxed atmosphere where visitors can unwind whether dining in or taking away a hearty meal.

The culinary focus here is classic Welsh and British fare crafted with care and freshness. The Full Welsh Breakfast is a standout, famed among locals and visitors alike for its perfectly cooked eggs, rich sausages, crispy bacon, and all the traditional trimmings that provide a robust start to any day. For something lighter or unique, guests rave about the Eggs Benedict with their luscious hollandaise sauce and the satisfying homemade soups and sandwiches, which change seasonally to showcase fresh, local ingredients.

The sweet tooth will find irresistible treats such as the moist, airy Victoria Sponge Cake, a perfect afternoon pick-me-up paired with one of their expertly brewed coffees or a classic mug of tea. Drink options range broadly from comforting lattes and cappuccinos to refreshing iced teas and milkshakes, catering to every mood and taste preference.

One of the absolute gems here is the special of the day—like the Steak and Ale Pie or the hearty homemade beef stew with red cabbage, mashed potatoes, and peas—a true celebration of local, traditional cuisine that delivers warmth and satisfaction in each bite. Reviewer Scott Andrews brilliantly summed this up, praising the stew as “glorious food,” emphasizing the heartiness and fair pricing that make it a must-try.

Visitors repeatedly comment on the welcoming service and friendly staff who ensure each meal is served promptly and with genuine warmth, even during busy times. Alison Jones’s experience at a bustling Saturday afternoon encapsulates this perfectly, mentioning how her breakfast was served fresh and hot, “amazing little gem of a place,” she calls it. Christine Booth also highlights the cafe’s accommodating nature, applauding its openness to different dietary needs and the engaging themed evenings that add a layer of community charm.

Whether you’re settling in with a cappuccino and a Full Welsh Breakfast to fuel your day—as Richard Hughes did after a family recommendation—or just dropping by for a peaceful afternoon tea amidst stunning rural surroundings, Glan Yr Afon Cafe offers an unpretentious yet unforgettable dining experience. Chris Jackson’s anticipation of returning with friends speaks to the café’s ability to create lasting impressions and a destination feel, despite its modest size.

For anyone traveling through Abergele or exploring North Wales, Glan Yr Afon Cafe promises not just food but a warm, heartfelt welcome and a taste of Wales that lingers sweetly on the palate and in the memory.

I popped in expecting to just buy a sandwich or something. I knew from ither's recommendations that this place did food but there were specials on and there was homemade beef stew, with red cabbage, mashed potato and peas I was having some of that! It was glorious food. Tasty, hearty, all of the stuff you want from traditional meals. Lovely, fair price. You can eat in or you can do takeaway. I took mine away to allow it to cool down and I ate it 10 minutes later. Glorious! Will visit again.

First time here following recommendations from family. Nice spot away from traffic and a great menu too! A very nice full Welsh breakfast with a cappuccino set me up the day. Lovely fresh eggs! Highly recommended.

Great service, excellent food and lovely, relaxing atmosphere. No problem with different dietary requirements. Offers themed evenings as well. A shame we're not local, but we will definitely call back when we're next up this way.

Ate here this morning with my husband and baby. Food was alright, the eggs were my favourite ,the ladies running it and the man were lovely. They were making a fuss of the baby, friendly and really chatty, it was lovely to sit and eat there in a peaceful atmosphere. Would recommend!

Lovely and very generous Sunday roast. The cafe had such a nice atmosphere. They even made an off menu vegetarian burger for my wife who didn't fancy a roast dinner. One to remember
